I came down with an awful stomach bug on Saturday afternoon, and when I still couldn't keep anything down yesterday, I got my husband to take me to the Reynolds ER. Our 3 year old bas been sick with cold symptoms for over a week, so we decided to have him checked out too. After 3 hours in the waiting room, we were called to the back and I was given IV fluids with Zofran, and was told our son had the start of an ear infection. The doctor told me they would send me home with nausea meds and our son an antibiotic, and when I was discharged, I noticed my bottle only had 1 Zofran pill. I thought it was a mistake and brought it to the murse's attention and asked him to ask the doctor for a script, at very least. I told him that I have to take meds every day for chronic lower back pain and haven't been able to keep them down. He went and asked the doctor, who apparently refused, and I left the hospital sick and frustrated. When we got back to the house, I opened my son's antibiotic, and surprise surprise, it was still a powder bc they forgot to mix it with sterile water(this is the third time this has happened in the last year with our kids' antibiotics.) So, we loaded back up in the car and went back to the ER. I went in and told the nurse what happened with the antibiotic and decided to ask again about a script for nausea meds. They mixed his meds and went to ask the doctor about something for me. The nurse came back and told me that the doctor put a script in at the Reynolds pharmacy and I could pick it up when they opened at 8:30 am (over 12 hours after my discharge.) When I asked why I couldn't get a script to fill off-post (to avoid the Zofran wearing off before the pharmacy opened and me getting sick again), the nurse told me that Zofran was really expensive and it would save Tricare about $150 if I filled the presciption on post instead of somewhere off post. I was absolutely floored!!! Needless to say, the nausea meds wore off early this morning and I started getting sick again and had to wait for the pharmacy to open before my husband could go pick it up for me. I will never, NEVER, take myself or my kids to the Army hospital to be seen again!

Yeah the ER on post is a joke. They have mis diagnosed me almost EVERY time i have been in. If you live closer to one of the other two hospitals go there! There are like 2 docs i like there and one left and the other left and came back and doesn't work as much. Yeah they hate giving prescriptions for off post when it comes to zofran. That medicine works miracles and they want to save a few bucks. Avoid Dr. MacNeil at the ER! He is a WHACK job. He told me i had something that was only caused by 2 anti-biotics which I never took. It was an allergic reaction to something they had gave me like 8 hours before. Then he told me I had Pancreatitis which can be deadly and said well I cant convince them to admit you so go home. I spent 2 weeks with that and then had to go back and then he reffered me to another doc off post to find that I had freaking ulcers. What an IDIOT!

But yea My friend ashley took her son there and they said he was just sick & then the next day she took him to the dr. cuz she didnt feel right about what they said and he ended up have stage 1 pnemonia. ha they really are a joke.. how can a dr not even pay attention to a baby having it seriously rediculous..

I had almost the same experience last year. My son was only 2 months old at the time it was around January last year when we had that freeze storm. My son was really sick and I couldn't understand why because no one else was sick and I had not left the house since I gave birth. seriously! Well my son was not eating as normal he was eating half of what he normally ate and he was acting weird but he didn't have a fever at the time. I still took him to the ER. They ran some test and concluded that there was nothing wrong with him hes growing so his eating habits are changing. (I thought when kids grow they eat more but that's just me). This was on a Thursday. On Saturday night I took my son to the emergency room again because that day he barely ate 2 ounces in the whole day. well they ran some more test and said he has a mild cold and he should be better in a few days. That didn't feel right so I kept insisting it was something else the doctor said he sees a lot of new mothers like me who are paranoid BLAH BLAH BLAH.. might I mind my daughter was two at the time so I was not a new mother I had already been a mother for 2 years. So I asked if i should make an appointment for Monday for a follow-up. the doctor said no need. So Monday morning came and the baby had only gotten worst and I was so worried and i hadn't slept all weekend because i was so concerned for my little guy. His breathing was also funny to me but the doctor said it was because of the cold. well I made a follow up anyway and I lied and said yes it was recommended by the doctor at the ER. they saw me that day at 2pm. when I got to pediatrics they my son looked so pale. the nurse asked if that's his normal skin color I said no he looks pale to me too and he looked pale on Saturday when I took him to the ER. they checked his oxygen with that machine and it was at 72.. its supposed to be above 96. That means my son was snot getting enough oxygen. they called the pediatrics doctor and she checked the baby and by that time his oxygen was at 65.. that's was like 3 minutes later. she listened to his chest and said hes not breathing and they ran my son to the emergency room without telling me that's how serious it was. I just ran behind her. My son was evacuated to OU children's medical hospital in OKC. my son had advanced stages of pneumonia and if I didn't bring my son on that day I was told my son would ve dies that day. He ended up having a temp of 104 and he stopped breathing and for 4 days he couldn't breathe on his own he needed supplemental oxygen. He stayed on the hospital in OKC for over a week. and then he saw a doctor every week after that. He didn't fully recover for 6 weeks after. This was the most scariest thing I have ever had to endure in my life. My son almost died because the doctor tried to tell me that I was paranoid and didn't know what I was talking about and twice the ER sent me home. I hate Reynolds ER the doctors there are incompetent. The thing that bothered me the most is that I was just following protocol. When i gave birth they gave me a paper with signs to watch out for - a list of symptoms that would let me know if something was wrong with my baby. I followed the list and his easting habit were the main clue as well as other things on the list and then when I took him in to the ER as the paperwork recommends and I get blown off to the point that my sons life was almost lost.

the worst part about army doctors is you can't sue them when they do screw something like that up...if your son's life had been lost, the doctor might have lost his license, had to reclass, and maybe lost rank...but he still gets to stay in the army. and that's only if you can prove he was the one at fault.

That is so true. i went and complained to the chief administrator at the hospital and all they did was ask a few questions and that's it. I called them two weeks later to see the progress and they said they have no record of my son ever going to the ER. I said well I still have my check out paper that they gave me when I left and they asked me to bring that in. Then they said that the doctors signature that was on there wasn't even at work that night he was off. So I was like so what I made up the story and forged this paperwork... oookay that's so far fetched its ridiculous to even think. They kept this going around like that the entire time and they assigned my son to a different doctor. at first we all had the same doctor but after that he has his own doctor different from the rest of us in the pediatrics department. the Army hospital is funny how they lose records when its very convenient.

Wow, I am sure glad my experience was the opposite. I had taken my son to his pediatrician a few times because he was coughing non stop. They gave him a few meds (turns out he had no business being on) and told me he was fine and nothing to worry about. Well he just kept on and it got worse so I took him to the ER and they listened to his chest and immediately sent him to get a chest x-ray because it didn't sound right. Sure enough, he had pneumonia. I am thankful I ended up there because his Dr. was giving him crap for allergies. I had even suggested to the doctor that it was probably not allergies. Sorry to hear about the awful experiences you guys have had. I am very thankful the ER did their job the day I took my son.

I guess it really depends on the doctor who is on that shift on that day. Some actuallyc are about the patients they take care of.

I agree with that, it depends on the doctor. I have never had a bad experience there, quite the opposite, but have heard of plenty of people who have. Glad your baby ended up being ok. It is scary when they rush them out and away from you. Had that happen at 2 days old when they discovered my sons heart condition. Civilian doctors, before our army time, but it was my ob nurse that caught it, not the peds doctors. They rushed him to a peds hospital and we had to follow in our car. It is horrible to have to go through and to think it could have been prevented if someone just took the time to listen a little longer.

It's unbelievable how poor the care is there. They have had a couple of few doctors come and go. I've been told they won't pay the good ones enough money. I've had a few negative experiences, and a few months ago swore I wouldn't go back there or have my boys seen there. The only reason we went the other day was because of the ice storm and we were trying to stay off the roads. Our youngest son was born shortly before my husband enlisted, and he got RSV when he was two weeks old, and it was scary. His pulse ox was only 74, and the ER we took him to in Georgia rushed him to the biggest children's hospital in north Georgia. He spent a 4 days in ICU, then two more days in a regular room. Pediatric medical care (especially when the child is too young to communicate) is nothing to take lately. Speaking of which, last February, our oldest son (who was 3 at the time) ended up with Rotovirus, and had a fever that was really hard to break. On top of the diarhhea, he was vomiting a lot. He was triaged and when they put the zofran in his mouth, it made him throw up. They took him back to a room bc his fever was almost 104. He was given medicine to bring the fever down. They initially took his temp rectally, and I was told they would have to do it the rest of the time he was there. I could tell when the tylenol started to wear off bc he started looking extremely sick and he felt burning hot to the touch. I went and got a nurse and he told me that his cheeks weren't flushed from the fever, his color was just starting to come back. He felt his body and said he felt normal. I asked him to get a thermometer anyway (which aggravated him) and he came back and took his temp orally. He smirked and showed me the temp on the thermometer and said "See, it's only 97.9". I told him his temp had been taken rectally and was told by his dr that it would have to be done that way since that's how it was originally taken and because of the kind of illness that he had. He refused to do it the right way and left the room, which shocked me. I went and got a different nurse, and she told me that I was right about how his temp needed to be taken, and when she came back and took his temp rectally, it registered at 104. Just another fine example of the outstanding medical care at Reynolds hospital. Just thought I would share that story too. Thanks everyone for your comments and experience.
